Hello Kitty Ready for Her Close-Up at LAX with EVA Air
(Los Angeles, CA) Today, Los Angeles World Airports and EVA Air showcased the airline's popular  Hello Kitty Hand-in-Hand Jet to a select group of social media influencers at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). From the Sanrio friends-adorned exterior to the many adorable interior touches, EVA Air flies the Hello Kitty themed jet, known as "Hand in Hand," for three of the 21 nonstop flights it operates between LAX and Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) in Taiwan on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

LAWA Director of Airports Administration Paula Adams Awarded Prestigious "Muriel M. Morse Achievement Award" for Excellence in Human Resources Administration

(Los Angeles, CA) Today, Los Angeles World Airports’ (LAWA) Director of Airports Administration, Paula Adams, received the “Muriel M. Morse Achievement Award” from the Western Region Board of the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (WRIPMA-HR).  The award, which is the Association’s highest honor, is awarded for those who exemplify the attributes and values predicated by Ms. Muriel M. Morse, who was known as an effective HR professional, a mentor, and a model of professionalism. The award was presented to Adams at a ceremony as part of the WRIMPA-HR’s Annual Conference in Sacramento, California.

LAWA and Edge4Vets Mark Second Successful “Prep and Connect” Seminar with Provisional Job Offers

(Los Angeles, CA)  Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and Edge4Vets hosted 27 veterans and representatives from 18 LAX-airport employers as part of its partnership to connect military servicemen and women to jobs at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).  Today’s workshop placed job-seeking veterans face-to-face with 41 mentoring hiring managers and HR professionals from companies like Southwest Airlines, the Hudson Group, Paradies, PCL Construction, Sixt Rent-a-Car, and others. This unique event allowed veterans to learn how to discuss the skills they earned during their military service with companies who are looking for skilled and motivated applicants. Today’s seminar also ended with provisional job offers made to four attending veterans, and appointments for interviews were extended to more than a dozen others. Officials expect that many of today's attendees will gain jobs over the next several weeks as a result of the seminar.

Board of Airport Commissioners Approve Purchase of 20 Electric Buses for Airside Use at LAX
(Los Angeles, CA) Yesterday, the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) approved the purchase of twenty 60-foot articulating, battery-powered electric buses to be used for airfield guest transportation. The new buses will replace older, diesel-operated buses, and provide transportation for guests traveling between terminals and gates on the Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) airfields. The new buses will also provide guests with quieter rides that produce no polluting emissions, and Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) anticipates reduced maintenance costs.

LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS RELEASES FINAL RFP FOR CONSOLIDATED RENT-A-CAR FACILITY

(Los Angeles, CA) Today, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) approved the release of the final RFP to design, build, finance, operate and maintain (DBFOM) the Consolidated Rent-a-Car (ConRAC) facility at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Located off of the 405 Freeway near Century Boulevard, the ConRAC will house rental car agencies in one facility and will be the eastern terminus for the Automated People Mover (APM) train system. The ConRAC will improve the rental car customer experience and reduce congestion in and around the airport by eliminating the need for rental car shuttles to pick up and drop off in the terminal loop.

LAX Breaks 18-Year-Old Cargo Record, Processing 2.158 Million Metric Tons in 2017
(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) processed more than 2.158 million metric tons of cargo in 2017, breaking an 18-year-old record for cargo tonnage processed. The figure, which is inclusive of goods destined for both domestic and international destinations, has also increased LAX’s worldwide and national cargo processing ranking to #13 in the world and #4 in the nation, an increase from #14 and #5, respectively. The increase is an indicator that Los Angeles remains an important economic conduit for the world’s goods, and reaffirms Los Angeles World Airports’ (LAWA) strategic goal of “sustaining a strong business."

Today’s approval marks the largest contract ever awarded in the City’s history. The item was heard at Los Angeles City Council’s Trade, Travel and Tourism (TTT) committee meeting on April 10, where it was also unanimously approved.

April Modernization Highlights: Key Updates on Construction Projects at LAX
  • Terminal Loop: Projects in the terminal loop will restrict the right-most lanes on the Lower/Arrivals Level overnight near Terminal 2 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal.
  • Parking Structure 3 & 4: Upper levels of Parking Structure 4 can only be reached through Parking Structure 3 until early summer.
  • Metro Project: Metro’s work on the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project will require lane closures on Century Boulevard. Guests should allow additional time to reach the airport.

(Los Angeles, CA) The Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) today approved a $4.9B 30-year Public-Private Partnership (P3) contract with LAX Integrated Express Solutions (LINXS) to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Automated People Mover (APM) system at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). LINXS' proposal had the highest technical score and the lowest cost proposal of the three teams that participated in the procurement process.

LAX Launches “Smart Restrooms” Pilot Project
(Los Angeles, CA) Just in time for the busy spring break travel season, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and Tooshlights®, the only smart restroom traffic management system that helps guests “know where to go®,” announced today a pilot program of smart restrooms in one of Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) terminals. The patented technology helps passengers navigate busy bathrooms and will now light the way for them in American Airlines’ Terminal 4.
